about

CHICHA LIBRE / LA SONORA MAZURÉN
CAMINITO DE MI PUEBLO.

Chicha Libre, from Brooklyn, NY, and La Sonora Mazurén, from Bogotá Colombia, have teamed up to pay homage to the never ending struggle of the indigenous people of the Americas. The collaborative recording is a re-arrangement of “Caminito de mi Pueblo”, a classic tune by iconic Ecuadorian composer, Polibio Mayorga, and was recorded in Bogotá in the summer of 2019.

The song includes a speech by Indigenous leader Cristina Bautista, who was assassinated a year ago. The release, timed to coincide with the 1st anniversary of her death, is dedicated to Cristina’s memory and to the more than 700 indigenous leaders who have been killed by paramilitary groups in the past few years.

“When we keep quiet, they kill us… And when we talk, they kill us too. So let’s talk!”
Cristina Bautista, 2019.”
